Preparing Your Child for College - How to Say Your Goodbyes

When it's time for your child to leave home for college, it can be really hard to let go. But, this is a very crucial event in their lives. This will help them begin to learn how to live on their own. While you may feel mixed emotions, it is still best to show encouragement and support.
Here are some tips to help your child feel good about going to college.
·
Tell them how proud you are and let them know that you support them in this very important decision.
·
Help them in packing. Even if your child is moving in a dorm, there's still a lot to pack. Ask them what they need to bring. Also make a few suggestions to ensure nothing important is left out.
·
Tell them when they leave that they can always come back, that it's their home no matter what.
·
If you are dropping your child off the campus, make the affair as short as possible so your child can attend to his orientations and activities for the day.
·
Aside from packing a necessity box, it is a great idea to pack a ‘surprise box' that contains all the favorite stuff of your college freshman, including his favorite cookie, photos and books.
